The Sandbox: A Conversation with Board Member Kevin Beverly
Access to affordable and high-quality early care and education (ECE) is critical for families – and for businesses. This month, we’re welcoming guest contributor and Children’s Opportunity Alliance intern Emma Covas, who sat down for a conversation with Board member Kevin Beverly to discuss the intersection of ECE and economic prosperity in Montgomery County.
Their conversation touched on the difficulties businesses face when parents have to leave the workforce to care for children, and the long-term implications of failing to invest in ECE. It’s time for our County’s business leaders to advocate for children and families so that our entire community can succeed.
Business Owners and Key Staff: Complete Our Survey on Child Care Benefits & Policies
If you’re an employer in Montgomery County, we want to hear from you! The Children's Opportunity Alliance and Maryland Family Network are conducting a comprehensive study of family-friendly workplace policies and child care benefits among Montgomery County employers. This study will examine the benefits that employers currently offer, the barriers that prevent a business from doing more, and solutions that would make the biggest difference.

Local Business Leaders Discuss Their Role in ECE
On July 17, the Alliance welcomed 25 local business leaders to have meaningful conversations about employers’ roles in improving the ECE system. Leaders, including Comptroller of Maryland Brooke Lierman, discussed the challenges as they see them and began brainstorming solutions and next steps to shift mindsets, funding, and public policy. Coming Soon: Resource Site for Families
There are many resources and supports available to families of young children in Montgomery County. However, we consistently hear from families that they are unsure of where to turn to find the information they need about child care, Pre-K, parenting tools, and more.
As part of our commitment in the Montgomery County ECE Common Agenda, we’re launching a website to house this information in one place. Stay tuned for more details!
