The Alliance hosts interns through Summer RISE

This summer, the Children’s Opportunity Alliance was proud to host interns through Summer RISE. This initiative, led by the Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) Department of Partnerships, is an opportunity for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in hands-on learning opportunities related to their field of interest.

Over five weeks, the interns who joined us worked on three key research projects in service of our mission. They analyzed parent survey data, gathered capacity and enrollment information from child care centers, and developed a comprehensive list of Maryland delegates who are champions of early childhood education. Their contributions were insightful and added significant value to our work, and they brought fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the Alliance while gaining hands-on professional experience.

In their own words:

“During my internship with the Children's Opportunity Alliance through the Summer RISE program, I gained valuable insights into the complexity of early childhood education. I learned a great deal about administrative aspects of childcare centers, which was both enlightening and rewarding. Engaging with dedicated professionals in the field allowed me to understand the impact of quality child care on children's development. I truly enjoyed the hands-on experience and the supportive environment. I highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in making a difference in early childhood education.”

“Working as an intern with Children's Opportunity Alliance was enlightening. I participated in multiple tasks, teaching me how to work with others. We even looked into programs and businesses wanting to support underprivileged children and get better resources. My Children's Opportunity Alliance host, Kim, has made my experience wonderful with communicating and helping me understand tasks that needed to be completed. This experience honed my leadership skills, helping reinforce my commitment skills.”

“During my internship at the Children's Opportunity Alliance, I was able to gain insight into what a professional setting would look like through Zoom and working remotely. Additionally, I analyzed real data and gained a deeper understanding of the grave concerns parents have regarding childcare and housing. Moreover, I reached out to childcare centers to gather data, organize it, and summarize it into presentations and executive summaries. Through this internship, I developed critical skills such as research, communication, and developed my professional etiquette, while also receiving invaluable support and advice about my future. I would like to thank [the Alliance] for taking the time out of [their] day to provide me with this memorable experience. The guidance has been extremely valuable, and I was able to learn a lot over these past few weeks. I am truly thankful for the chance to work with such a dedicated team and to grow both professionally and personally.”

The Summer RISE program has been an asset to the Alliance as we work to ensure that every child in Montgomery County can thrive. We are proud to be a part of the program and look forward to continuing our partnership.
