The Week of the Young Child: April 8-12

April 8-12 is the Week of the Young Child –a fun-filled week celebrating young children, early learning, and the adults and communities that support them. High-quality early childhood education can set the foundation for all future health, learning, and well-being, and contribute to building stronger families, a more robust workforce, and a flourishing society. Our entire community benefits when we ensure that all our youngest children have what they need to develop to their fullest potential.

Celebrate with us this month by attending events and programming in and around Montgomery County. The Alliance is excited to spotlight the organizations that are committed to ensuring that every child in our county experiences an environment that promotes and celebrates their early learning. Local organizations host a wide variety of activities for young children and families throughout the year, including story hours, art classes, and more!

  • Arts for Learning Maryland has a month full of arts-integrated workshops, lessons, and activities for ages 3-6. Check out their full calendar of events!

  • Montgomery County Public Library hosts a variety of early childhood events all year round for babies, toddlers, and caregivers.

  • Montgomery County Parks is hosting Sunday Serenades every weekend in April. These all-ages morning concerts feature local musicians and are free to the public!

  • Child care providers who participate in a WOYC event can receive a PAU from Child Care Support Services

  • Story Tapestries has a playlist of magical stories for children, along with other resources for parents, teachers, and caregivers.

  • The Irvine Nature Center features 8 miles of wooded trails, an outdoor classroom, and nature activities for the whole family. They also offer free admission on Fridays!
